Pierre Yves Lab

Pierre-Yves Labey — Santa Teresa, Costa Rica

The ocean leaves the material. I finish the sentence.

Driftwood pulled from Pacific beaches, cut, joined and lacquered into sculpture, lamps and painting. Twenty years of designing for the world’s luxury houses, now spent on one object at a time.

Statement

“Nothing here starts as raw material. A trunk has already spent a decade in salt water before it reaches the studio; a house has already been lived in badly before it is rebuilt. My work begins at that second stage — with what the sea, the light and time have already decided.”

Two practices

Objects for a room, and the room itself

Collectors come for a single piece. Homeowners come for a whole interior. Both begin with the same conversation about light, material and how you actually live.

Arts

Sculpture, lamps, painting, drawing

One-off works in reclaimed wood and bold lacquer, and paintings that carry the same tropical palette. Nothing is editioned and nothing is sold from a cart — each piece is placed by inquiry, with photographs, dimensions and shipping discussed directly.

Home remodeling

Interiors rebuilt around light and air

Full interior design and remodeling for houses in Costa Rica, from a single room to a whole villa. Villa Pi.Casa — designed, built and decorated as my own home — is the reference project and the clearest way to see the method.
